Women
finish first, men place third in home tri meet with Syracuse
and Colgate

Kramer (Loudonville, N.Y.) tied for first in the women's
race and sophomore Jeff
Herbert (Somerville, N.J.), placed ninth in the men's
race, highlighting the Binghamton cross country teams' home meet
against Syracuse and Colgate on Saturday morning. The women's
team won the three-team meet with 37 points while the men were
third in their meet with 67 points.
The winning trio in the women's meet crossed the finish line
with a time of 19:31 for the 5,000 course. Sophomore Mary
Tursi (Staten Island, N.Y.) was 15th (20:45) and junior
Allison
Furey (Smyrna, N.Y.)
was
16th (also 20:45).
"I'm happy with how we did on the women's side," head
coach Annette Acuff said. "We were missing Katherine Murnane,
one of our top runners, who has been sick this week. Still we
have a very strong top four runners. We are looking for the other
runners to close the gap. Allison ran very well today, considering
this was her first race of the year."
There were 33 runners in the women's race. Syracuse was second
in the team standings with 41 points while Colgate finished third
with 45 points.
Syracuse won the men's meet with 23 points but Mike Hanlon of
Colgate was the individual winner with a time of 25:25 for the
8,000 meter course. The Red Raiders were second with 37 points.
There were 25 runners in the men's race.v
Herbert crossed the line with a time of 27:12. He was followed
by senior Pete
Chambers (Newark, N.Y.), who was 10th (27:15), senior
Sergey
Shteyn (Staten Island, N.Y.) who was 15th (27:42), sophomore
Mike
Wlodarski (Syracuse, N.Y.) who was 16th (27:49) and junior
Prahlad
Genung (Afton, N.Y.), who was 17th (28:05).
Up next, both the men's and women's teams head to Lehigh University
next Saturday for the prestigious Paul Short Run. The meet will
start at 10 a.m.
