Immediate Release: November 22, 2005 Contact: Thomas Moore II (sports@binghamton.edu) Phone: 607-777-2956 Binghamton women's swimming & diving program inks a diver and a local swimmer VESTAL, N.Y.--The Binghamton women's swimming & diving program has announced the signing of two high school seniors, both of whom have returned a National Letter of Intent. They will begin their freshman seasons with the Bearcats next fall. Lindsay Wright (Johnson City, N.Y.) is state finalist from nearby Johnson City High School. She placed seventh in the 50 freestyle and 11th in the 100 freestyle at the 2005 New York State Championships. As a junior, Wright finished second in the 50 freestyle and ninth in the 100 freestyle at the state championship. As a sophomore, she finished fourth in the 50 freestyle and tenth in the 100 freestyle. During the 2003 state championship Wright's 200 freestyle relay team finished in second place. She is a four-time sectional champion in both the 50 and 100 freestyle. Wright holds the school records in the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 100 butterfly and 200 freestyle relay. In 2004 she became the Empire State champion in the 100 freestyle. "Lindsay is not only a top-notch freestyle sprinter, she is also a talented butterflier," head coach Patrice Back said. "Combined with the talent we have on the team, Lindsay will help contribute to stronger relays and should be one of the top sprinters in the America East. With her strong work ethic and toughness when racing, we look forward to having her join Binghamton Swimming next year." Anne Malvasi (Liverpool, N.Y.) is a state-qualifier diver from Cicero-North Syracuse. As a junior, she placed second at the Sectional and State Qualifying Meet. In addition, she was ranked fourth in the state. Malvasi participated in the Empire State Games for both the one-meter and three-meter board dive. She also competes in gymnastics "Anne is coming off a stellar senior year," Back said. "She was undefeated in dual meets, won sectionals and qualified for the New York high school State Meet. In addition to an impressive list of dives on the one-meter board, she also has three-meter experience which will prepare her for diving both boards next year. Anne adds to a strong contingency of female divers and will be a valuable contributor in dual meets as well as at the America East Championship." |
