OLEAN, N.Y. -- Senior Rosey Mustafa (Montebello, N.Y./Suffern) banked an 18-yard shot off the goal post and in with 4:18 remaining in the first overtime period, giving visiting Binghamton (4-2-1) a come-from-behind 2-1 win over St. Bonaventure (6-2) Sunday afternoon. Mustafa collected a ball at the top of the box, turned and struck a shot that caromed off the goal post and into the net. It was her second game-winning goal of the season. Trailing 1-0 late in regulation, the Bearcats notched the equalizer when sophomore striker Tatiana Mathelier (Pomona, N.Y./Saddle River Day, N.J.) collected a corner kick from senior Amanda Norman (Middletown, N.Y.) and beat the keeper from eight yards out. Mathelier's team-best third goal of the year came with 11:10 remaining in regulation. Norman now has three assists and five points in her last two games. "It was a battle," BU head coach Jeff Leightman said. "I think our fitness level was better, and that made a difference. We started to take over as the game went on." Senior keeper Lauren Cherry (Wyncote, Pa./Cheltenham) recorded five saves, including a breakaway save and several other key stops to keep BU's deficit at 1-0. The Bearcats trailed for nearly 72 minutes of regulation. St. Bonaventure, which entered the game riding a six-game win streak, outshot BU 13-11. Binghamton will return to the West Gym field on Friday, hosting Howard at 3 p.m. |
