Women's soccer hosts Pre-America East Tournament Media Day

VESTAL, N.Y. - The Binghamton women's soccer team hosted their Pre-America East Conference Tournament Media Day on Tuesday. The Bearcats, who are the No. 1 seed heading into the tournament, will host Northeastern on Friday at 11 a.m. The winner of that game will face either Maine or New Hampshire on Sunday at noon, also at West Gym Field.

Here are some of the quotes from Tuesday's event:

Head Coach Jeff Leightman

"We are happy to be the number one seed. To win the regular season championship is great. No one can take that away from you. We worked hard all season long and it paid off in the end."

"We did not sneak up on anybody. We did not do so well last year but this year we were picked to finish eighth and took first. This year we were known as a tough team. You can sneak up on someone and win one game, but no more than that."

Senior midfielder Caitlin O'Shaughnessy

"This was pretty unexpected to be the number one seed. Our goal for the season was to make the America East tournament. To be playing the last game of the regular-season for first place was great."

Senior midfielder Deli Plourde

"The turning point in the season would have to be the Maine game (which the Bearcats won 1-0 on Oct. 3). After we beat them we knew that we could beat anyone. We have struggled with them in years past and after we beat them it gave us the knowledge that we had it in us."

"We beat four of the five other teams that are with us in the tournament, so we know that we are capable of winning our games this weekend."
