Immediate Release: September 1, 2006 PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Host Pitt (3-0) built a 3-0 lead and kept Binghamton women's soccer (0-2-1) winless with a 3-1 victory Friday night from Founders Field. The Panthers stretched a 1-0 halftime lead and outshot the visiting Bearcats 17-8. "We got caught ball-watching too often," head coach Jeff Leightman said. "We picked it up a bit in the second half and put some pressure on but it wasn't nearly enough." Pitt opened the scoring in the 28th minute and maintained a 1-0 halftime edge. The Panthers then broke the game open with two goals in a 50-second span in the 73rd minute. All three goals came off the foot of sophomore midfielder Jennifer Kritch. Junior forward Betsy Harris (Chappaqua, N.Y.) scored her first career goal for the Bearcats. Harris took a feed from junior midfielder Kerry O'Shaughnessy (Stony Point, N.Y.) and broke the shutout in the 79th minute. After allowing just 16 goals during the entire 2005 season (0.77/game), a young BU defensive unit has already surrendered nine goals in its first three games of 2006. The Bearcats next play at No. 18 West Virginia Sunday afternoon. |
