Mathelier's overtime goal edges American, 2-1
Playing in the nation’s capital, BU earned the overtime win when freshman forward Tatiana Mathelier (Pomona/Saddle River Day, N.J.) intercepted a back pass and beat the American keeper 2:03 into the first sudden-death period. Mathelier now has five goals in her first six collegiate games. With 11:08 left in the game, American took the lead, but the Bearcats evened it with just 5:04 remaining in regulation. Junior midfielder Amanda Norman (Middletown) bent a corner kick into the far corner for her second goal of the season. In the extra-session, Mathelier used her speed to produce her second game-winning goal this fall. She has scored a goal in each of BU’s last three games since returning from a knee injury. The Bearcats held a 20-14 edge in shots. Junior keeper Lauren Cherry (Wyncote, Pa./Cheltenham) made four saves to earn the win. | ||||
