Bearcats roll over Albany 3-0

ALBANY, N.Y. - Binghamton (8-6-1, 2-3-1 AE) received a pair of goals from senior striker Tracy Kasmarcik (Binghamton, N.Y./Susquehanna Valley) and blanked host Albany (1-14-1, 0-6 AE) 3-0 in an America East women's soccer match Sunday afternoon. The Bearcats have never lost to their SUNY rivals, owning a 12-0-1 record in the all-time series, which dates back to 1986.

"It was a good win - a win we needed," head coach Jeff Leightman said. "We also got a chance to play everybody, and rest our starters a bit."

Kasmarcik opened the scoring with just 7:12 elapsed, dribbling past a pair of Great Dane defenders before beating the keeper. The tally snapped a long dry spell for the first team all-conference forward, who hadn't scored in a 10-game stretch dating back to September 7.

Then with 4:23 gone in the second half, Kasmarcik struck again, this time taking a pass from freshman linemate Danielle White (Haddon Township, N.J.), outracing the keeper to the ball, and tapping it into the open net for a 2-0 Binghamton lead. Junior midfielder Caitlin O'Shaughnessy (Stony Point, N.Y./North Rockland) closed out the scoring in the 64th minute, finishing a far-post run by knocking home a cross from freshman Kelly Burnham (Endicott, N.Y./Union-Endicott).

The Bearcats outshot Albany 20-3.

Freshmen keepers Kristie Bowers (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Olympia) and Kristy Doerner (Shoreham, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River) split time in goal and shared the shutout.

Binghamton hosts UMBC in a crucial conference game Thursday at 3 p.m. With three America East games remaining, the Bearcats continue to battle for for a top-six position and berth in the conference tournament.
