Immediate Release: March 29, 2004 Contact: David Berman (berman@binghamton.edu) Phone: 607-777-2956 Binghamton falls 15-7 at Marist Box Score POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.--Sophomores Lauren Wetherell (Bethpage, N.Y.) and Allison Lak (Nassau, N.Y./Columbia) scored two goals apiece, but a poor first half was too much for the Bearcats (2-4) to overcome in a 15-7 loss to host Marist (1-5) on Monday afternoon. The Red Foxes scored three unanswered goals in the game's first five minutes, and after Wetherell put Binghamton on the board, extended the lead to 7-1 with 8:21 remaining in the opening stanza. Marist led 8-2 at halftime and Binghamton never got closer than five goals in the second half. Wetherell and freshman Anna Riordan (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) notched unassisted goals in the first half before the Bearcats scored five times in the final 30 minutes. Junior Laura Gabbamonte (Glen Cove, N.Y.) scored on a feed from senior Clodagh Harte (Nesconset, N.Y./Smithtown) midway through the period, and just two minutes later picked up an assist of her own, feeding freshman Michelle Gross (Floral Park, N.Y.). Freshman Becky Green (Altamont, N.Y./Guilderland), who earlier in the day was named the America East Rookie of the Week, handed out three assists. Green entered the day ranked third in the nation in assists per game (2.2) and improved that mark with her effort. The first-year attack leads the team in scoring with 24 points (10 goals, 14 assists). Senior goalie Christa Quon (Vestal, N.Y.) once again went the distance in goal, making 16 saves. Binghamton returns to action on Thursday when it visits Niagara at 3 p.m. |
