Box
Score
BROOKLYN, N.Y.-- Junior Amy Rizzo
and senior Chrissie Carleton combined to score eight of Long
Island's nine first half tallies to lead the host Blackbirds
(1-4) to a 16-8 victory over Binghamton (2-5) in a non-conference
game played Tuesday afternoon at LIU field.
Long Island held a 5-3 advantage midway through the first half
when the Blackbirds' attacking duo led a late 4-0 surge giving
their squad a 9-3 advantage after 30 minutes of action. Overall,
Rizzo led all scorers with a game-high six goals and seven total
points while Carelton added four tallies and a pair of assists.
The Blackbirds frustrated Binghamton on the offensive end throughout
the decisive first frame, outshooting the Bearcats by a healthy
20-9 margin. Binghamton's play picked up in the final stanza,
but ultimately, the six-goal halftime deficit would prove too
much to overcome.
For the Bearcats. junior attacker
Heather
Grose (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) led the way with six total
points (two goals, four assists) while both classmate Danielle
Edwards (Horseheads, N.Y.) and freshman Julia
Demuth (Jordan, N.Y.) chipped in with a pair of finishes.
Sophomore Kristen Marsjanik (Webster,
N.Y.) continued her stellar sophomore campaign with her fifth
goal in as many games. Junior Anna Riordan
(Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) rounded out the scoring for the Bearcats,
with her sixth score of the season.
In between the pipes, sophomore goalie Sandra
Alvarez (Port Washinton, N.Y.) made 10 saves for Binghamton.
After playing their first seven games on the road, Coach Edmonston
and the Bearcat women return to Binghamton for their home opener
against Siena on Thursday afternoon at 4 p.m.
