WEST PALM BEACH, FLA.--Junior
attack Danielle
Edwards (Horseheads, N.Y.) netted a career-high five goals,
leading Binghamton (2-3) to a 12-10 win over American in their
final game at the Spring Fling lacrosse event in West Palm Beach,
Fla. With the victory, the Bearcats have now won back-to-back
contests for first time in the program's five-year history.
"This was a well-deserved win for our team," head coach
Emily Edmonston said. "We played a great first half and
even though American picked up the pace in the second half, we
didn't panic."
The Bearcats raced out to 7-1 halftime lead and continued their
relentless attack with three straight tallies to extend the lead
to 10-1 early in the second period of play. The Eagles, however,
would storm back to pull within 11-10 in the final minute.
But it ultimately went all for naught, as Edwards' final goal
with 22 seconds remaining proved to be the backbreaker. The Bearcats
proceeded to win the ensuing draw control and run out the clock.
Edwards, a second-team all-conference selection in 2005, previously
had notched four goals four times during her career.
Sophomore midfielder Leanne
Musso (Auburn, N.Y.) added three goals to continue her impressive
spring, while junior attack Heather
Grose (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) chipped in with a pair of
finishes.
For American, senior midfielder Moriah Linnell led the way with
four goals.
Edmonston and the Bearcat women will look to continue their winning
ways on Sunday when they head to Canisius for a 1 p.m. contest. |
