volleyball sweeps Iona 3-0 in the opening match at the Yale Classic

New Haven, Conn. - Binghamton (7-7) swept Iona (3-8) 3-0 at the
Courtyard by Marriott Yale Classic on Friday night at the John
J. Lee Amphitheatre. Binghamton won by scores of 30-26, 30-26,
30-16.
Junior outside hitter Katie
Brody (Vestal, N.Y.) and freshman outside hitter Brianna
Strong (Elkhart, Ind.) each had the team-high 11 kills. Brody
also had 13 digs, while Strong had a team-high 14 digs.
"Brianna (Strong) did a nice job coming in," head coach
Glenn Kiriyama said. "She got her totals playing only the
last two games. She was swinging aggressively and reading well
on defense."
Junior middle blocker Megan
Hoag (Brunswick, Ohio) had 8 kills and 3 aces, while classmate
setter Ashley
Meffert (Louisville, Ky.) had 35 assists and 5 blocks. Sophomore
middle blocker Jacki
Kane (Centennial, Colo.) contributed a team-high 7 blocks.
Freshman libro Jaclyn Strader (Kettering, Ohio) had 13 digs.
"It was a nice team effort," Kiriyama said. "What
we didn't get our hands on at net we dug. We dug a ton of balls."
Binghamton
finishes the classic tomorrow with Delaware at noon, followed
by host Yale at 7 p.m. |
