Immediate Release: September 10, 2004 Contact: David O'Brian (dobrian@binghamton.edu) Phone: 607-777-6478 Volleyball loses swept by Fairfield in first match at Villanova Wildcat Classic Box Score VILLANOVA, PA.--In its opening match at the Villanova Wildcat Classic, the Binghamon volleyball team (2-3) was swept by Fairfield (2-4) 30-24, 30-26, 30-24. The defeat was the second straight for the Bearcats. Sophomore middle blocker Megan Hoag (Brunswick, Ohio/Padua Franciscan) was the only Binghamton player in double figures with a season-high 10 kills. She also had nine digs. Senior outside hitter Jen Smith (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda) had a team-high 13 digs while sophomore setter Ashley Meffert (Louisville, Ky./Fern Creek) had a match-high 31 assists. Senior middle blocker Anne Crocus (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) had four total blocks. Binghamton faces the host team on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. and Virginia Commonwealth at 3:30 p.m. in the second and final day of the Villanova Wildcat Classic. NOTES: Crocus now has 475 total blocks for her career. She needs one more block to tie Mitzi Livermore (1983-87) for third place all-time in school history. |
