Score VESTAL, N.Y. -- Senior outside hitter Lauren Knight, junior Alyson Coler and freshman Amy Dai all recorded double-digit kill totals as the University of New Hampshire Wildcats (19-10, 9-1 AE) swept the Binghamton University Bearcats (8-18, 2-7 AE) 3-0 in a conference match Friday night at East Gym. The scores were 30-28, 30-14, 30-21. "We hung tough for the first game," said BU head coach Glenn Kiriyama. "However, we made too many errors down the stretch of the last two games, and a good team like New Hampshire will take advantage of that." After a nearly even battle in the first game, the Wildcats trailed 7-5 in the second game before seizing momentum in the match with a 25-8 run to close the game. New Hampshire hit an even .500 in the second game, and took advantage of 10 Binghamton errors. Knight wound up with a team-high 11 kills, while Coler and Dai added 10 apiece. In addition, junior setter Anne Davis tallied 35 assists. For Binghamton, sophomore hitters Michele Heck (Chicago, Ill./Resurrection) and Jennifer Smith (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) each had 12 kills. Heck also added 13 digs. Sophomore middle blocker Anne Crocus (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) had a match-high five blocks, adding to her league-leading total. Crocus is now averaging 1.58 blocks per game. Sophomore setter Glorimar Ortega (Naranjito, Puerto Rico) had 29 assists. On Saturday at 4 p.m., the Bearcats will entertain Northeastern at East Gym. The Huskies defeated BU 3-0 earlier this season in Boston. |
