For Immediate Release: October 28, 2005 Contact: Thomas Moore II (sports@binghamton.edu) Phone: 607-777-2956 Binghamton volleyball wins 3-1 match over New Hampshire Bearcats tie most conference wins since they joined the America East Box Score DURHAM, N.H.-- Binghamton (15-10, 7-1 AE) bounced back from its first conference loss of the season with a 3-1 win over host New Hampshire (6-17, 3-5 AE) at Lundholm Gymnasium in an America East volleyball match Friday evening. The Bearcats won by scores of 30-27, 24-30, 33-31, 30-25. Junior outside hitter Katie Brody (Vestal, N.Y.) led the Bearcats with 15 kills. Junior setter Ashley Meffert (Louisville, Ky.) contributed team-highs of 43 assists and 14 digs. Sophomore middle blocker Jacki Kane (Centennial, Colo.) produced a match-high eight blocks. Freshman outside hitter Brianna Strong (Elkhart, Ind.) came off the bench in the second game to finish with 10 kills and nine digs. Brody and freshman libero Jaclyn Strader (Kettering, Ohio) each contributed 13 digs. Sophomore outside hitter Kathleen Schauer (Litteton, Colo.) and junior middle blocker Megan Hoag (Brunswick, Ohio) each had 10 digs and six blocks, Hoag also added three aces. "This was a tough battle, all the games could have gone either way," head coach Glenn Kiriyama said. "Today came down to execution and in the second game we did not execute down the stretch. In the third and fourth games we were able to execute, coming up with some key digs and blocks which was the difference." The Bearcats produced 16 team blocks in the match, their second highest total of the season. The Bearcats will host three of their final four regular season matches. On Sunday they will host Hartford in the West Gym at 2 p.m. NOTES: The seven conference wins ties the most that Binghamton has won against conference foes since joining the America East, last season the Bearcats finished 7-7 in the conference. This is the first time that Binghamton has defeated New Hampshire on the road, earlier this season the Bearcats defeated New Hampshire 3-2 for their first ever victory over the Wildcats.
