BOSTON,
Mass.--Senior outside hitter Whitney Turner led Northeastern
(11-7, 2-0 AE) to a 3-0 win over Binghamton (9-11, 0-2 AE) Friday
night in an America East game at Solomon Court. The Huskies beat
the visiting Bearcats 30-26, 30-18, 30-27.
The Bearcats took the lead early in the third game, 9-8 and held
the lead until Northeastern worked their way back to a 26-26
tie. Senior right side hitter Jen
Smith (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) tried to spark the Bearcats
producing a kill to tie it back up at 27, but the Huskies were
determined to stop Binghamton and succeeded.
"We played them close in the first and second games,"
head coach Glenn Kiriyama said. "It was close all the way
to the end of the third game. Overall the team played pretty
good."
Smith had a team high 12 kills and 11 digs. Senior outside hitter
Michele
Heck (Chiago, Ill.) also had a double-double with 10 kills
and 10 digs. Sophomore setter Ashley
Meffert (Louisville, Ky.) had 29 assists and also produced
seven digs.
