Immediate Release: October 9, 2004 Contact: David O'Brian (dobrian@binghamton.edu) Phone: 607-777-6478 Volleyball sweeps Hartford for first conference win of the season Box Score WEST HARTFORD, CONN.--Freshman middle blocker Jacki Kane (Centennial, Colo.) nailed a career-high 18 kills, leading Binghamton (10-11, 1-1 AE) to a three-game sweep at Hartford in an America East Conference volleyball match on Saturday evening. The game scores were 30-25, 30-23, 33-31. In 35 attempts, Kane made only two errors and hit .500 for the match. She also tied for the team lead with three block assists. Sophomore setter Ashley Meffert (Louisville, Ky.) had 33 assists and nine digs, senior outside hitter Michele Heck (Chiago, Ill.) recorded a match-high 16 digs and senior right side hitter Jen Smith (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) added seven kills and 11 digs. With six kills against Hartford, Heck now has 1,243 career kills, which is just 13 shy of the school record of 1,257 set by Lauren Caiaccia (1992-95). Last night, Caiaccia was inducted into the Binghamton Athletic Hall of Fame. Binghamton heads to Siena for a non-conference match at 1 p.m. on Sunday. |
