Immediate Release: September 28, 2005 Contact: Thomas Moore II (sports@binghamton.edu) Phone: 607-777-2956 Binghamton volleyball team swept 3-0 by Cornell in final regular-season non-conference match Box score ITHACA, N.Y.-- The Binghamton volleyball team (8-9) was swept by Cornell (7-2) 3-0 in the final regular-season non-conference match for the Bearcats on Wednesday evening at the Newman Arena. The Bearcats lost by the scores of 21-30, 27-30, 22-30. Binghamton was led by junior middle blocker Megan Hoag (Brunswick, Ohio) with 9 kills and freshman libro Jaclyn Strader (Kettering, Ohio) with 12 digs. Junior outside hitter Katie Brody (Vestal, N.Y.) recorded 8 kills and 11 digs, while sophomore middle blocker Jacki Kane (Centennial, Colo.) added 8 kills while hitting a team-high .364 (8-0-22) and contributed with a team-high 3 blocks. Junior setter Ashley Meffert (Louisville, Ky.) tallied 36 assists. The team hit an above average .228 for the match. "We played fairly well against a good Cornell team," head coach Glenn Kiriyama said. "Our middle was quite effective against them, Kane and Hoag played great. Their serving was tough for us at times." The turning point of the match was in the second game with the score knotted at 27-27, the Big Red scored the final three points of the game to take the 2-0 advantage. "We were in most of the games till end," Kiriyama said. "In the second game we came close at 27 but were not able to finish the game." Binghamton starts its conference schedule on Friday at UMBC with a 7 p.m. match. |
