HAMILTON,
N.Y. - Binghamton University volleyball opened its season with
a 3-0 win over host Colgate (0-1) Saturday afternoon. The Bearcats
(1-0) won by scores of 30-24, 30-14, 30-25.
Junior middle blocker Megan Hoag (Brunswick, Ohio) led Binghamton
with 10 kills and freshman outside hitter Brianna Strong (Elkhart,
Ind.) led Binghamton with 14 digs. Hoag also had 11 digs, making
her the only Bearcat with a double-double.
"Overall the team played well," head coach Glenn Kiriyama
said. "I thought we did some smart things out there. Our
block came through toward the end of the match to keep their
offense in check and we also served effectively. Our defense
did a good job digging up a lot of balls and keeping them in
play."
Junior setter Ashley Meffert (Louisville, Ky.) split her setting
time with freshman setter Ashley Allen (Mill Creek, Wash.) they
had 20 and 13 assists, respectively. Sophomore middle blocker
Jacki Kane (Centennial, Colo.) contributed with 8 kills and 7
blocks.
Binghamton heads to the Holy Cross Tournament this coming weekend.
It's first match will be against Holy Cross at 8 p.m. on Friday. |
