The game was shortened due to rain. After sweeping a pair of games from the Catamounts on Saturday, the Bearcats appeared to pick up right where they left off at the start of Sunday's game. Sophomore pinch runner Lauren Verrusio (New Rochelle, N.Y./ New Rochelle) stole home on a wild pitch in the bottom of the second inning to put Binghamton ahead 1-0. Sophomore second baseman Nicole Vitello (Olean, N.Y./ Olean) and senior catcher Jessica Chellis (Tunkhannock, Pa./ Tunkhannock) had back-to-back RBI singles in the third inning to stretch the lead to 3-0. Vermont struck back in the top of the fifth inning. Binghamton made a pair of errors allowing two Catamount runners to get on base. With two outs, freshman third baseman Kate DeForge belted her first collegiate home run over the left field fence to tie the game at 3-3. Binghamton was batting in the bottom of the sixth inning when the game was called. Because the sixth inning had not been finished, the official game included only the first five innings. |
