The Bearcats won the nightcap 5-0 after losing the opener 10-2. "We settled down in the second game and Katie pitched great," head coach Holly Brown said. "The whole team was focused and played good defense." Hansen struck out a season-high nine batters and retired seven of the last nine hitters. She issued five walks but allowed only one extra-base hit. Junior first baseman Emilie Palmcrantz (Leksand, Sweden) and freshman Sandy Meadows (Huachua City, Ariz.) each had three hits in the second game. Meadows drove in a pair of runs as did senior shortstop Rose Barre (Watertown, N.Y.). Barre opened up the scoring with a RBI double in the bottom of the first inning. Two innings later, she scored on a RBI single by senior second baseman Nicole Vitello (Olean, N.Y). Meadows stretched the lead to 4-0 on a two-out, two-run single later in the third inning. Barre completed the scoring with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fourth inning. It was a different story in the first game, however, as Siena exploded for nine runs in the first two innings. Senior outfielder Christa Fasano and senior third baseman Alyson DeMarino each drilled a two-run double in the top of the first inning and senior designated hitter Alyson Campbell, who had a game-high three RBI, had a two-run double in the second inning. Binghamton made three consecutive miscues in the top of the third inning, leading to the Saints final run of the game. Vitello drilled a two-run home run in the bottom of the fourth inning to trim the deficit to 10-2 but the Saints were able to finish off the game in five innings. Binghamton hosts Army in a doubleheader at 4 p.m. on Thursday. |
