The Bearcats dropped the opener to Columbia (8-6) 4-0 but bounced back to defeat Lafayette (2-3) 4-2. "We put the ball in play well today in the second game," head coach Holly Brown said. "We improved our field play as well." By going 2-for-6 with a run and a pair of RBI, Barre is now hitting a team-best .409 so far this season. Moreover, she has hit safely in all nine of the team's games. Barre broke a scoreless tie in the top of the third inning with her two-run triple. She would later score on a sacrifice fly by senior second baseman Nicole Vitello (Olean, N.Y.). Senior pitcher Katie Hansen (Westtown, N.Y.) scattered two runs on seven hits and struck out a pair of batters to even her record at 2-2. She got out of a bases-load jam in the bottom of the sixth inning with the Bearcats clinging to a 3-2 led. In the top of the seventh inning, Binghamton got an insurance run when junior left fielder Stephanie Woodcock (Harpursville, N.Y.) singled home freshman center fielder Sandy Meadows (Huachuca City, Ariz). Earlier in the day, Maiya Chard-Yaron tossed a six-hit shutout, leading the Lions to the win over Binghamton. The Bearcats struggled in the field, committed four errors which led to all four Columbia runs. Binghamton faces Eastern Illinois at 10:40 a.m. and Bucknell at 2:20 p.m. on Wednesday as play continues in Orlando. |
