Immediate Release: April 30, 2006 Contact: David O'Brian (dobrian@binghamton.edu) Phone: 607-777-6478 Binghamton softball records 1-0 shutout at Maine Box Score ORONO, MAINE- Senior Katie Hansen (Westtown, N.Y.) fired a two-hit shutout, leading Binghamton (12-30, 5-13 AE) to 1-0 win at Maine (33-16, 14-34 AE) in an America East Conference softball game on Sunday afternoon at Kessock Field. The victory was the Bearcats' sixth in their last 10 games. Hansen, who has allowed just two runs in her past three starts, struck out six batters and issued only one walk. She now has two complete-game shutouts this season. Offensively, senior shortstop Rose Barre (Watertown, N.Y.) and junior catcher Christina Quijano (Syracuse, N.Y.) each went 2-for-3 with a double. It was a pair of Black Bears errors, however, that would result in the lone run of the game. Junior first baseman Emilie Palmcrantz (Leksand, Sweden) reached on an error to start the sixth inning. Freshman Michelle Robb (Cumberland, Maine) as sent in to pinch run for Palmcrantz and two batters later, she took advantage of an error by the shortstop to give the Bearcats a 1-0 lead. The Black Bears left the tying run on second base when the game ended. Binghamton hosts a doublheader on Wednesday against Cornell at 3 p.m. |
