Binghamton softball drops 9-1 decision to Syracuse

VESTAL, N.Y. - Central New York foe Syracuse (19-14) defeated Binghamton (4-19) 9-1 in a non-league contest. The game lasted only five innings which was played at the East Gym Complex.

The Bearcats collected their lone run in the bottom of the fourth inning as junior utility infielder Mia Bieman (Wingham, Ontario) advanced to first and bagged an RBI on a bases loaded walk. Senior shortstop Rose Barre (Watertown, NY), fellow classmate outfielder Lauren Verrusio (New Rochelle, NY) and sophomore catcher Devin Glezen (Hallstead, PA) each collected a hit for Binghamton.

Syracuse was able to put up three runs up on the board in the top of the second. The Orange followed that up with another six runs in the top of the fourth to push the lead to 9-0.

The Orangewomen had five players that collected multiple hit games (14 total). Senior pitcher Alexis Switenko worked all five innings giving up just three hits and striking out five, improving to 7-1 on the season.

Binghamton returns to action this weekend when they host Stony Brook in an America East matchup. On Saturday the Bearcats are scheduled to play a doubleheader starting at noon and on Sunday they will play a single game slated to start at noon.
