Immediate Release: April 17, 2004 Contact: David O'Brian (dobrian@binghamton.edu) Phone: 607-777-6478 Softball loses pair of games to first-place Boston 4-3 and 1-0 Game 1 Box: Boston 4, Binghamton 3 Game 2 Box: Boston 1, Binghamton 0 BOSTON, Mass.---Despite a valiant effort in both games, Binghamton (11-14-1, 4-5 AE) dropped a doubleheader at conference-leading Boston (17-22, 5-0 AE) on Saturday afternoon. The Bearcats lost 4-3 in the first game and 1-0 in the nightcap. Binghamton was down 4-0 in the top of the seventh inning but staged a furious rally to cut the deficit to 4-3. Junior center fielder Jessica Dima (Staten Island, N.Y./ Port Richmond) scored the Bearcats' first run courtesy of a Boston error and sophomore shortstop Rose Barre (Watertown, N.Y./ General Brown) drove in the other two runs on a two-out single. Binghamton, however left the tying run on first base when the game ended. Sophomore pitcher Katie Hansen (Westtown, N.Y./ Minisink Valley) took the loss as her record fell to 7-7 on the season. In the nightcap, Binghamton and Boston were scoreless heading into the bottom of the seventh inning but the Terriers earned the walk off victory courtesy of a RBI single by Abbey Pauley with no outs. Senior pitcher Michelle Weeks (Bunnell, Fla./ Flagler Palm Coast) took the loss despite only allowing one run on nine hits and striking out six batters. Her record fell to 3-7. Binghamton stranded six base runners in the second game. Binghamton and Boston conclude their three-game series with a noon contest on Saturday. |
