Binghamton pole vaulter Quiller qualifies for NCAA Track & Field Championship

VESTAL, N.Y. - Sophomore pole vaulter Rory Quiller (West Point, N.Y.) has become the first Binghamton University track athlete to qualify for the NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field Championship, the school learned Monday night. Quiller is tied for 14th place in the nation in the pole vault, with a season-best height of 17-6.5 feet. The top 14 athletes in each event are selected for the NCAA meet, which will be held March 11-12 in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

"This is big for our program," head coach Mike Thompson said. "We have only been Division I for four years and there are going to be a lot of great programs such as Nebraska and Arkansas at this meet. I'm sure some of the other coaches have not heard of Binghamton so this will give us good exposure."

"It's an honor to be the first person from Binghamton in this meet," Quiller said. "Binghamton has had a great tradition (at the Division II and Division III levels) and to be a bridge to the Division I level is a honor for me."

Quiller will compete in the pole vault on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
