Immediate Release: May 7, 2005 Contact: David O'Brian (dobrian@binghamton.edu) Phone: 607-777-6478 Johnson and Goldberg win individual titles as Bearcats host AE Track & Field Championships Photos Complete Men's Results Complete Women's Results VESTAL, N.Y.--Freshman Dayna Johnson (Brentwood, N.Y.) and junior Adam Goldberg (New Rochelle, N.Y.) each won individual titles as the Binghamton track and field teams hosted the first day of the 2005 America East Conference Championships on Saturday afternoon. Both the men's and women's teams are in fourth place with one day remaining in the meet. Johnson captured the women's long jump with a school-record distance of 18-11 3/4 feet. She beat the old mark of 18-5, which was set by Monique Hacker in 1998. Goldberg also won his first title, winning the men's high jump with a height of 6-4 3/4. Other noteworthy performances on the men's side included sophomore Joe Flucus (Bronx, N.Y.), who set a school record during the 200 preliminaries. His time of 21.65 eclipsed the mark of 21.85 set by Jewdyer Osborne in 1997. Flucus will be seeded fourth in the finals on Sunday. Senior Neil Case (West Winfield, N.Y.) will be seeded first in the men's 400 hurdles, having clocked a time of 53.12 in the preliminaries. Also on the women's side, senior Lindsay Warren (Lansing, N.Y.) placed second in the pole vault (11-3 3/4). In the team standings, Boston leads the women's meet with 48.5 points while Albany leads the men's meet with 84.83 points. Binghamton's women's team has 29.5 points while the men's team has 32.5 points. The second and final day of the championships starts at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
