Binghamton men's tennis rolls over UMBC, 7-0, for eighth straight win

VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton men's tennis (17-5) rolled to a 7-0 win over visiting UMBC (6-9) Saturday afternoon at the West Gym Courts. The Bearcats won all nine matches, including straight-set victories in every singles contest. Binghamton, the two-time defending America East champion, has won 12 of its last 14 matches, including eight in a row.

"We had a slow and tentative start in doubles, but came on as the matches wore on," head coach Michael Starke said. "We rode that confidence into singles, where I think our talent and ability to execute under pressure took over. We did get the job done and continue to play pretty well."

Binghamton sophomore No. 1 Dan Hanegby (Herzliya, Israel), currently ranked No. 99 in the country, earned a 6-3, 6-1 singles win over James Tyler, improving to 27-7 overall, 17-4 in dual matches. Earlier, Hanegby teamed with freshman Faisal Mohamed (Lynbrook, N.Y.) for an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles.

Junior Richemn Mourad (Sao Paulo, Brazil) posted a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Irfan Shamasdin - his third straight win over conference opponents. Mourad also combined with classmate Edwin Gerard (Bayside, N.Y.) for an 8-5 win at No. 3 doubles.

The most dominating performance was turned in by freshman No. 3 Alex Dobrin (Flushing, N.Y.), who rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 win over Michael Keller. Dobrin owns a team-best 18-3 dual match record, and is 23-5 overall. He also paired with junior Brian O'Connor (New Rochelle, N.Y.) for an 8-4 victory at No. 2 doubles.

The Bearcats next host America East foe Boston University Sunday at 10 a.m.
