Immediate Release: March 4, 2005 "It was a championship-intense effort," head coach Michael Starke said. "I'm very proud of the team." Junior Edwin Gerard (Bayside, N.Y.) and freshman Alex Dobrin (Flushing, N.Y.) each won twice to spearhead the victory. Gerard's win at No. 5 singles clinched the team triumph. Earlier, Gerard combined with junior Richemn Mourad (Sao Paulo, Brazil) for an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles. He then utilized a strong serve-and-volley game for a 6-3, 5-7, 6-3 singles win. Dobrin produced a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles after teaming with freshman Faisal Mohamed (Lynbrook, N.Y.) for a 9-8 (7-5) doubles victory at No. 2. That clinched the doubles point for the Bearcats. Dobrin raised his singles mark to 15-5, including a 10-3 dual match record. Sophomore No. 1 Dan Hanegby (Herzliya, Israel) earned a 6-3, 7-5 win at the top spot, snapping a two-match losing streak and lifting his singles record to 19-6. The Bearcats will next host St. John's on March 11 at the Binghamton Tennis Center.
