Binghamton men's tennis enjoys solid debut at Bloomsburg Invitational

BLOOMSBURG, Pa.--Binghamton men's tennis opened its 2004-05 season at the non-scoring Bloomsburg Invitational Saturday and Sunday, and showed the team's talent and depth with favorable results against Bucknell, Villanova and the host Huskies.

Sporting a lineup loaded with underclassmen, BU won all nine singles matches and two of four doubles contests against Villanova. The team also won all seven singles and all three doubles matches against Bloomsburg, and six of eight singles and three of four doubles contests against Bucknell.

Sophomore No. 1 Dan Hanegby (Herzliya, Israel/Harishonim) went 3-0 in singles, dropping just eight games in the six sets he played. Hanegby also went undefeated in doubles with junior teammate Brian O'Connor (New Rochelle, N.Y./Iona Prep). Playing No. 4 singles, O'Connor dropped just six games in posting three straight-set wins. Junior Richemn Mourad (Sao Paulo, Brazil) went 3-0 at No. 2 singles and freshman No. 3 Alex Dobrin (Flushing, N.Y./Cardozo) made his collegiate debut with three wins - all in straight sets.

Binghamton will host Ithaca in its home opener on Wednesday. The 4 p.m. match will be played on the West Gym Courts alonside the women's match between the two schools.
