Immediate Release: November 4, 2004 Contact: Thomas Moore II (sports@binghamton.edu) Phone: 607-777-2956 Tayla named America East Men's Swimming Performer of the Week America East Conference Release BUFFALO, N.Y.--Freshman Kaan Tayla (Ankara, Turkey) has been named the America East Men's Swimming Performer of the Week for all races up until November 1. This marks the first time in his career he has recieved this honor. "Kaan's award for America East Men's Swimming Performer of the Week is certainly well deserved. He swam any freestyle event that we needed him to win, opposed to his best events," head coach Patrice Back said. "I feel he is winning this award for not only being a good swimmer, but as a team player." In three meets this season, Tayla has placed first in all seven individual events that he has swam. Against Boston College, Tayla swam the 200 free in (1:43.61), the 50 free in (21.71) and the 500 free in (4:55.35). Against Boston University, he swam the 200 free in (1:44.93) and the 500 free in (4:57.97). Against Towson, Tayla swam the 100 free in (46.69) and the 200 free in (1:45.21). He anchored in the 400 freestyle relay (3:13.99) against Boston College on October 17th; he also anchored the 400 medley relay against Boston Univ. and Towson with times of (3:36.51) and (3:30.08) respectively, in all three relays the team got first. In the relay against Towson broke the pool record of (3:31.22) set by Cornell in 2002. Binghamton swimming and diving travel to UMBC on Saturday at 2 p.m. Seton Hall will also be there |
