Binghamton men's swimmer Holmes named America East Performer of the Week

VESTAL, N.Y.--Binghamton University junior David Holmes (Doncaster, England) has been named the America East Men's Swimming Performer of the Week for Jan. 10 - Jan. 16. This is the fourth week this season that Holmes has received this honor and the sixth time in his collegiate career.

Holmes swam the 500 free in 4:38.01, breaking the pool record of 4:40.42 this past weekend against Drexel. He touched over 20 seconds faster than his next fastest competitor. Holmes placed first in the 50 free (21.52) earlier in the meet. He also swam the final leg of the 400 medley relay which took first place in 3:34.63.

"We are excited for David to receive the America East Men's Swimming Performer of the Week award," head coach Patrice Back said. "He certainly did it in fine style, breaking the 500 free record by over two seconds. Breaking the record was a goal that we believed he could accomplish. He did it coming off some very difficult training only several days prior."

The Bearcats head to Lafayette on Wednesday for a 2 p.m. meet.
