and women's swimming splits with Colgate

VESTAL, N.Y.--Binghamton University freshman Kaan
Tayla (Ankara, Turkey), freshman Joe
Rogan (Ithaca, N.Y.), senior Robert
Kaczynski (Tychy, Poland) and sophomore David
Holmes (Doncaster, England) won the final race of the meet,
the 400 free relay in 3:08.79 to give their team the victory
as the men's and women's swimming and diving teams split with
Colgate Saturday evening at the Lineberry Natatorium. The men
(7-3) won 156-144, while the women (1-10) were defeated 195-92.
"Today we had a great meet," head coach Patrice Back
said. "We knew it was going to be a close meet. The men
really got togeather and decided what places they need to finish
in to win the meet."
Kaczynski also won the 100 breast in 58.85 and the 200 breast
in 2:08.91. Tayla was also victorious in the 50 free (21.23)
and the 100 free (46.81). Holmes won the 200 free in 1:46.33
and the 500 free in 4:48.65. Sophomore Trevor
Stone (Windsor, N.Y.) was triumphant in the 100 fly (51.84)
and the 200 fly (1:58.93). Also with a win for the men was sophomore
Brian
Koizim (White Plains, N.Y.) in the 200 back in 1:57.87.
The men's team of Koizim, Kaczynski, Holmes and Tayla took first
in 400 yard medley relay (3:31.12).
On
the women's side senior Huijue
Cai (Shanghai, China) won the 100 fly in 58.06 and the 200
free in 1:56.70. Freshman Bridget
Dormer (Northport, N.Y.) picked up her first collegiate individual
victory in the 200 IM (2:25.00).
The women's team of sophomore Monica
Friedl (East Meadow, N.Y.), senior Lauren
Katz (Little Neck, N.Y.), junior Eden
Payabyab (College Point, N.Y.) and Cia won the 400 free relay
in 3:53.62.
The Bearcats host their final meet of the regular season against
Stony Brook on Saturday at 1 p.m. |
