Immediate Release: May 18, 2006 Contact: David O'Brian (dobrian@binghamton.edu) Phone: 607-777-6478 Back steps down as swimming & diving coach to assume lecturer position in athletic department VESTAL, N.Y.-- Patrice Back, who has guided the Binghamton swimming and diving program the past three seasons, has resigned as head coach to assume a lecturer position within the Health and Physical Education Department at the university. The athletic department will begin the process of filling her position shortly. Back, who was named the America East Conference Men's Coach of the Year this past season, has been a part of the Binghamton swimming & diving program the past eight years. She was the top assistant coach from 1998-03 before replacing Benji DeMotte in July 2003. "It has been a fantastic eight years," Back said. "I have been surrounded by a very supportive administration that has been willing to make the move from Division III to Division I. I am looking forward to my new position but I have had a great group of swimmers to work with." Under Back's guidance, the Binghamton men's squad has been the runner-up at the America East Conference Championships the past three years. During that same period, the women's team has crowned three individual conference champions. In addition, the men's and women's teams have won a combined total of nine individual ECAC championships.
