VESTAL, N.Y. The Binghamton University Bearcats (5-9-1, 2-4 AE) scored three second-half goals in a nine-minute span, defeating the Stony Brook Seawolves (2-12-1, 1-4 AE) in a conference game Wednesday afternoon at West Gym Field. Trailing 1-0 midway through the second half, senior midfielder Keith Augeri (East Northport, N.Y.) received a pass from teammate Michael Austin (Oneonta, N.Y.) and beat the keeper in front of the net, tying the score at 1-1 in the 62nd minute. Less than one minute later, freshman defender Graham Munro (Inverness, Scotland) converted a penalty kick for a 2-1 lead at the 62:20 mark. At the 70:52 mark, Munro added another penalty kick to close the scoring. It was nice for our seniors to get a win in our final home game, said BU head coach Paul Marco. Keith [Augeri] played especially well and it was great to see him get a goal. The Seawolves opened up a 1-0 lead midway through the first half. After a missed shot, Stony Brook defender Chris Scarpati (Dix Hills, N.Y.) took the rebound and served a pass to freshman Chris Musinski (Hicksville, N.Y.), who fired the ball to the back of the net at the 19:06 mark. Stony Brook kept Binghamton off the scoreboard for the first 61 minutes despite being outshot 20-9 for the game. Junior Dan Ferrin (Grosse Point Farms, Mich.) came up with seven saves in goal for the Seawolves. Bearcat goalkeeper Ian Wendel (Sparta, N.J.) stopped five shots and earned his fifth win of the season. We didnt get off to a good start today, Marco said. But we talked at halftime about being relentless in the second half and punishing every mistake, and we responded. The Bearcats will play their final three regular season games on the road, beginning with a match against Maine on Sunday. Kickoff is set for noon. The Seawolves travel to Albany for a 3 p.m. match on Saturday. |
