Binghamton signs Scottish trio

Vestal, N.Y. — The Binghamton men’s soccer team has received national letters of intent from Stephen Bruce (Moray, Scotland), Graham Munro (Invereness, Scotland) and Darren McAllister (Aberdeenshire, Scotland), all of whom are standout players in their native country, to play for the Bearcats starting in the 2002 season.

“These three players will bring the maturity, experience and leadership that comes from competing at high levels,” said Binghamton head coach Paul Marco. “We expect them to come in and be key pieces to our puzzle this year.”

Bruce, Munro and McAllister are all starters on the North of Scotland Regional Boys Team. They also compete in the prestigious Highland League, which is the most competitive amateur league in Scotland.

Bruce will enter Binghamton as a sophomore, having played at Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen, Scotland this past year. He is a 6-0 midfielder.

“Stephen is a very strong player who has an eye for the goal,” said Binghamton assistant coach John Scott. “He is a creative player with the ball.”

Munro is a 6-0 defender who will start his freshman season in the fall.

“Graham is a solid defender with great technical abilities,” said Scott. “He will bring a lot of composure to our backfield.”

McAllister, a 5-10 forward, will also begin his freshman season this coming fall. He was named the Rookie of the Year on his Highland League Team this past season.

“Darren is a feisty player,” said Scott. “He has the speed to cause a lot of problems for opposing defenses.”

Bruce, Munro and McAllister bring the number of Binghamton signings to five this off-season. Last month, junior college standout Mike Hibbert (Louisburgh, N.C.) and high school standout John Sideris (Wynantskill, N.Y.) also sent their letters of intent to Binghamton.
