Immediate Release: September 11, 2005 Contact: David O'Brian (dobrian@binghamton.edu) Phone: 607-777-6478 No. 20 Binghamton men's soccer defeats St. Bonaventure 1-0 to win second straight tournament Box score OLEAN, N.Y..-- Junior forward Peter Sgueglia (Schenectady, N.Y.) scored his first goal of the season, leading No. 20 Binghamton (4-0-1) to a 1-0 win at St. Bonaventure (1-2-1) to win the St. Bonaventure Invitational on Sunday. It marks the second consecutive tournament win this season for the Bearcats, who have now recorded three shutouts in their first five games. Sgueglia's goal came at 70:09 mark of the game and was assisted by senior back Darius Ravangard (Utica, N.Y.). Binghamton outshot St. Bonaventure 12-2 and redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Ryan Bertoni (Owego, N.Y.) did not have to record a save. "This was a fantastic weekend for us," head coach Paul Marco said. "Both of our wins were battles and our guys rose to the challenge." Sgueglia, Bertoni, senior back Danilo (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and redshirt junior forward Kyle Antos (Endicott, N.Y.) were named to the all-tournament team. No MVP was named. Binghamton heads to Hartwick for a 7 p.m. game on Wednesday. |
