Head coach Paul Marco and the Binghamton men's soccer team met with the local media prior to its Wednesday afternoon training session. Below are some of the transcribed quotes.

Head Coach Paul Marco

On his initial impressions of this year's team

"Each season and team brings its own challenges and opportunities….I see some new and exciting opportunities with this team."

On bouncing back from the past two losses in the America East Conference finals

"The losses in the past two years haven't really changed our approach…We're going about business as usual this season, with guys finding out the Bearcat way to do things."

On his goals for the season

"Our goal is to improve each and every day, and we've done that so far…we got much better as the Penn State scrimmage went along…at the end of the day, we want to say that we overachieved, and if we can do that we should be able to meet all our goals….we are going for the double this year: the America East regular season and tournament titles"

On his number of local recruits

"Within our local community, we work extensively to develop young players, starting at age 4 and right up through when they're high school seniors…we really want to keep the local players who are a fit for Binghamton University right here."

Junior goalkeeper Ryan Bertoni

On facing No. 5 Penn State this past Monday

"We learned a lot from the Penn State game…we definitely built some confidence that will carry over into the season."

On last season's final loss

"It was definitely a motivator in training this summer and going into this season…We learned from that heartbreak and now we're ready to go."

Senior midfielder Kyle Antos

On last season's final loss

"It's a big key for motivation….we've come up short two years straight now, and we're pushing hard to beat Stony Brook and the rest of the conference."

On Binghamton's rise to national prominence

"There's a little pressure on us now to get back into the national rankings…every year we have higher and higher expectations…this season we're looking to surge through the America East and win some NCAA Tournament games, and we have the right guys to do it.

Junior back Adam Chavez

"We've got a great group of guys coming back from last year and we've brought in some good new players. We want to win a conference championship, and that's what we're here for."
