Immediate Release: October 30, 2004 Contact: David O'Brian (dobrian@binghamton.edu) Phone: 607-777-6478 Nationally-ranked men's soccer settles for 1-1 tie against Vermont Box score VESTAL, N.Y.-- Playing under extremely muddy conditions, Binghamton's nationally-ranked men's soccer team (10-1-6, 4-1-3) played to a 1-1 deadlock against Vermont (8-5-4, 3-3-1 AE) in an America East contest on Saturday afternoon. The Bearcats fall to third place in the America East Conference standings heading into their final regular season game of the season. Vermont opened the scoring at 25:08 as Scott Webb came in on a breakaway and scored his third goal of the season. Patrick Wyld, who made the pass to Webb, was credited with the assist. Binghamton got the equalizer at 36:10 as senior back Michael Austin (Oneonta, N.Y.) dribbled to the left of the goal and sliced the ball back into the net for his third goal of the season. Sophomore midfielder Kyle Antos (Endicott, N.Y.) had the assist. Binghamton outshot Vermont 10-3 in the first half but was outshot 5-4 in the second half, 1-0 in the first overtime and a staggering 6-0 in the second overtime period. The Catamounts, however, were unable to convert any of their chances. The Bearcats travel to Albany on Wednesday for a 2 p.m. game. |
