VESTAL, N.Y. — The Binghamton University Bearcats (4-9-1) fell to the Colgate Red Raiders (6-5-3) 1-0 in a non-conference game played Saturday afternoon at West Gym Field. The Red Raiders’ scored the game’s lone goal in the 43rd minute.

Playing on a wet and muddy field that still showed the effects of last week’s heavy rains, neither team could gain an advantage for much of the first half. That changed just before halftime, when Colgate’s Peter Bourquin (Avon, Conn.) took a pass from teammate Bryant Meckley (Hanover, Pa.) and beat Binghamton’s keeper at the 42:14 mark.
Each team had several good shots in the second half, but strong play from the respective goalkeepers preserved the 1-0 score. Binghamton’s Ian Wendel (Sparta, N.J.) and Matt Nolan (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) combined for five saves, while Colgate’s Will Martin (Excelsior, Minn.) stopped eight shots. Both teams had 12 shots for the game. Graham Munro (Inverness, Scotland) and Michael Austin (Oneonta, N.Y.) each had three shots for Binghamton.

The loss extended Binghamton’s losing streak to five games. The Bearcats will return to action and continue conference play at home on Wednesday afternoon, with a 2 p.m. match against Stony Brook. Colgate returns home on Wednesday to play Philadelphia University.
