The Bearcats outshot the visiting Bison 15-8 for the game but could not net the game winner through a pair of 10-minute sudden death overtime periods. Junior midfielder Matt Narode (Glenmont, N.Y.) opened the scoring 31:44 into the game. He took a cross from sophomore midfielder Cody Germain (Glenmont, N.Y.) and covered a 10-yard shot into the net. Bucknell, however, answered quickly as junior forward Kevin Holmes got by the Bearcat defense and scored the tying goal at the 37:29 mark. Freshman forward Chris Hennings was credited with the assist. The game was scoreless the rest of the way as the Bearcats were called offsides on a pair of goals and junior goalkeeper Joey Kuterbach made a crucial save on a shot by Germain with 2:40 left in the second half. "This was a decent start to our season," head coach Paul Marco said. "Some guys played well and we were able to create a lot of scoring chances. I'm disappointed we couldn't finish off the game but this is something to build on." Binghamton heads to Maryland on Sunday for a 7 p.m. game against the defending NCAA champion Terps. |
