Former BU basketball standout Green returns to join Bearcats' coaching staff
Two-time all-star replaces Marlon Sears, who took assistant position at Wagner

VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton University men's basketball coach Al Walker has tabbed one of his former all-stars to fill a coaching vacancy. Anthony Green, who starred at BU during its first two seasons of Division I, has been hired as an assistant coach. Green fills the void left by the departure of Marlon Sears, who recently was named top assistant at Wagner College.

"It is a special pleasure to bring Anthony Green back to the program," Walker said. "He was a great competitor and leader as a player, and this past year, while working in the community, he has been a mentor to our players. Anthony is a young teacher and coach with tremendous potential. I am so proud to have him join our staff."

Green enjoyed two outstanding seasons for Walker's Bearcats in 2001-02 and 2002-03 after transferring from Gloucester County College. The Philadelphia native racked up 672 points and 184 assists from his point guard spot, and became the first BU player to receive first team America East all-star honors in 2003. In his senior season, he averaged 16.7 points, 4.2 assists and 1.9 steals per game, and drained a school-record 71 three-pointers.

He went on to earn his bachelor's degree in human development from Binghamton in 2003 before playing professionally in Austria and Sweden for two years.

Green, a fan favorite among youngsters for his basketball skills and engaging personality, most recently worked as a family life specialist at the Children's Home of Wyoming Conference. There, he served as a supervisor and role model for troubled teenagers.

Green joins a coaching staff that includes seventh year associate coach Lawrence Brenneman and second year assistant coach Ali Ton.
