After steering his
team to an NCAA tournament berth in the program’s first
year of Division II, coach John Affleck was honored by his District
1 peers as Coach of the Year. Affleck, in his 12th year, will
be honored at the 13th Annual Golf Coaches Association of America
(GCAA) National Convention in late January. Affleck’s ‘98-99
team captured five invitationals and earned a berth to the NCAA
tournament for the eighth consecutive season. The team, seeded
first in District 1, placed 11th at the Northern Regional. For
Affleck, the national honor was his sixth in the last eight years.
He was named Division III District 2 Coach of the Year five consecutive
years between 1991-96. This year’s team captured the ECAC
Upstate New York Championship in the fall, and placed fourth
at the all-division ECAC Championship. The team won four invitationals
and were runners-up in two more tournaments. |
