Binghamton baseball loses pitching duel against Maine 4-0
Black Bears break open close game with three runs in ninth

VESTAL, N.Y. - Senior right hander Scott Robinson tossed a four-hit shutout to carry visiting Maine (25-11-1, 6-1 America East) past Binghamton (19-15-1, 6-5 AE) 4-0 Friday afternoon at Varsity Field.

Robinson yielded four singles - all in the first four innings - to improve to 7-2 this spring. Binghamton put runners on base in the first, second and third innings but came up empty thanks in part to a pair of 5-4-3 double plays turned by the Black Bears. Robinson grew stronger as the game progressed, retiring the side in order in each of the final five frames.

Maine plated a run in the first inning off sophomore starter Scott Diamond (Guelph, Ontario) and tacked on three more in the ninth inning. Diamond struck out seven in 8.2 innings but absorbed his fifth loss of the season.

Senior left fielder Ryan Quintal went 2-for-4 with two RBI to pace the Black Bears' offense.

Senior center fielder Aaron Davis (San Francisco, Calif.) was the lone BU player with more than one hit. He went 2-for-4.

The two teams continue their four-game set with a twinbill Saturday beginning at noon.
