WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - One day after putting 14 runs on the scoreboard in a nine-inning win, Binghamton (23-18-1, 9-8 America East) was kept off the board for 14 innings and suffered a 1-0, 5-0 doubleheader sweep at the hands of host Hartford (10-34, 7-12 AE) Saturday afternoon from Campus Field. It marked the first time in its five-year Division I tenure that Binghamton has been shut out in a doubleheader.

In the opener, Hartford scored the game's lone run in the bottom of the seventh inning, spoiling yet another outstanding performance from sophomore pitcher Zach Groh (Reading, Pa.). Groh (4-2) retired the side in five of his seven innings and allowed just three hits. But in the decisive seventh frame, the Hawks put together back-to-back singles with one out and ended the game with a sacrifice fly to right field.

Groh, who leads the nation in earned run average, struck out eight and walked none. His ERA moved up slightly from 0.75 to 0.82. In 54.2 innings this spring, Groh has allowed five earned runs and has 60 strikeouts against just 12 walks.

The Bearcats were held to four hits in the game.

In game two, senior pitcher Jarrod Rampey (Rochester, N.Y.) scattered seven hits in six innings, but five of those were for extra-bases and the Hawks stretched a 1-0 lead with two-run home runs in each of the fourth and fifth innings. Binghamton managed just five hits and never had more than one in an inning.

The teams will conclude a four-game series with a single, nine-inning game at noon on Sunday.
