Southern pounds BU 16-1 STATESBORO, Ga. - Georgia Southern (13-4) scored nine runs in the game's first two innings and rolled to a 16-1 win over Binghamton (3-5-1) Tuesday night. The scheduled nine-inning game was shortened to seven innings. The Bearcats actually led 1-0 on an RBI double by junior designated hitter Joe Costello (Ventnor, N.J./Cumberland County College). Georgia Southern countered, however, with six runs in the bottom of the first inning, and three more in the second. Binghamton was limited to three hits, and GSU's starter retired 19 of the final 20 batters he faced. Bearcats pitchers surrendered four home runs and 16 hits in six innings. Costello's RBI was his ninth in nine games. Junior center fielder T.J. Kowalchuk (Stormville, N.Y./Carmel) leads the team with a .370 average and 10 RBI. |
