BASEBALL Box Score Bryan Frisbee (Coxsackie) led off the ninth inning with a double. On the next play, Binghamton pitcher Phil Artonio (Massapequa) stopped a hard ground ball back to the box and threw out Frisbee at third. The batter, Tony Woods (Lockport) was safe at first on the fielders choice, and one out later, scored on Browns double to left-center field. Le Moyne opened the scoring with a pair of unearned runs in the fourth inning. Anthony Aquilino (Sicklerville, N.J.) led off with a walk and was safe at second trying to steal when the ball was knocked loose by his slide. Brett Woodcock (Liverpool) followed with an RBI single and Frisbee drove in a run with a groundout. The Dolphins extended the lead to 3-0 in the fifth inning. Brown was hit by a pitch leading off the inning, and scored on an infield hit after stealing second and third. The Bearcats got their first run in the bottom of the sixth inning, when T.J. Kowalchuk (Stormville) singled up the middle to drive home Tony Berube (Vestal), who had reached on a fielders choice. With runners at first and second, junior third baseman Tyler McGonigal (Kendall) attempted to bunt for a base hit, but was called out when Le Moynes pitcher fielded the ball along the first base line and stretched to tag out McGonigal. Binghamton scored twice to tie the game in the bottom of the eighth inning. Sophomore first baseman Jamie Boyer (Lancaster, Pa.) led off the inning with his sixth home run of the season, making him the team leader in that category. Berube then greeted eventual winning pitcher Andy Weimer (New Hartford) with a single and Kyle Loucks (Johnson City) blooped a ball down the left field line for a hit. With runners at the corners and one out, Kowalchuk reached on an error and Berube scored the tying run. Boyer wound up going 3-for-4 on the day, with a double and home run. He also drew a walk to tie Kyle Loucks for the schools all-time season record. Loucks was 2-for-4 in the game and Berube scored a pair of runs. The Bearcats return to action this weekend, with a pair of pivotal conference doubleheaders against Albany. BU is vying for a spot in the four-team America East Tournament later this month. Game time for doubleheaders Saturday and Sunday is set for noon. |
