Binghamton climbs up to third in America East Commissioner's Cup Standings
BU continues ascent toward top of conference in overall sports success

America East Release

VESTAL, N.Y. - Thanks to its three championship teams, three runner-up teams and consistent finishes in the top half of the league, Binghamton has placed third in the 2004-05 America East Stuart P. Haskell, Jr. Commissioner's Cup. It marks the second straight year that Binghamton has improved its overall standing in the competition, which rewards conference members for overall athletics success in the 22 America East sports.

Albany won the competition with 380 points, moving past Boston University (368) and Binghamton (357) in the spring. Maine (332) and Northeastern (316) rounded out the top five.

Spearheading Binghamton's rise in the standings were its three conference championship teams - women's soccer, men's tennis and golf. Runnerup performances by men's soccer, men's swimming and diving and women's tennis also provided a boost in points. In addition, volleyball, baseball and men's lacrosse advanced to their respective conference tournaments with top-four finishes.

After placing ninth in the 2002-03 Commissioner's Cup - it's first full year in the conference - BU jumped up to fourth last year.
