Athletes of the Week Redshirt
freshman Jason Stenta (Binghamton, N.Y.) recorded his
first two solo shutouts this past week. He made three saves in
a scoreless tie against Lehigh and followed up with six stops
in the Bearcats' 1-0 win over Hartwick on Saturday. His most
important save of the week came off a corner kick with three
minutes left against Hartwick. Stenta saved a header from close
range off a corner kick to preserve the win. Since taking over
as the starting goalkeeper five games ago, Stenta has led Binghamton
to a 2-1-2 record. His goals against average stands at 1.09,
including a microscopic 0.29 the past three games. Sophomore
Katie Radzik (Mt. Sinai, N.Y.) won the women's race for
the second year in a row, highlighting the Binghamton cross country
teams' season-opening meet at the Binghamton Invitational. Radzik
placed first out of 42 runners in the women's race by covering
the 5,000-meter course in 19:17.3. She came from behind in the
last 200 meters to defeat Elizabeth Kennedy of Colgate by one
second. With the win, Radzik has now won three races during her
career at Binghamton. Sophomore
midfielder Cody Germain (Glenmont, N.Y.) netted a career-high
two goals, including the game winner with just 2:32 left in regulation,
leading Binghamton to a 4-3 win over Long Island in the final
day of the Dartmouth adidas/Hypertherm Men's Soccer Classic on
Sunday afternoon. In addition to scoring twice, Germain assisted
on another of the Binghamton goals. He now has a team high six
points (two goals and two assists) this season. In
four matches last week senior middle blocker Megan
Hoag (Brunswick, Ohio) led the volleyball team with 2.81
kills and 0.50 service aces per game. Against Wright State on
Saturday, she was instrumental in leading the Bearcats to its
first victoryof 2006, collecting a team-high 16 kills along with
a match-high six service aces and 14 digs. Hoag also figured
largely in BU's 3-1 loss to Big Ten power Michigan, once again
leading her squad with 16 kills and adding 12 digs to record
her first of two double-doubles on the weekend. |
