The men’s tennis team won for the seventh time in the last eight matches, defeating host Bucknell on Thursday, 5-2. The Bearcats swept the three doubles matches to claim that point, and then won four of six singles matches against their Patriot League opponents.
Freshman Akshay Rao improved to 11-3 at first singles with his 6-3, 6-3 win. Senior Dmitriy Litvak rallied from a set down to post a 2-6, 6-2, 6-2 victory at No.2 singles. Earlier the pair scored an 8-5 win at first doubles. Junior Brad Davidoff earned a 6-2, 7-6 (2) victory at fourth singles, and is now 17-4 on the year, including a stellar 12-2 dual match record. Junior Ryan Rosenthal picked up BU’s other singles win — a 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 triumph at the sixth spot. The Bearcats’ scheduled home match Saturday against New Hampshire was cancelled due to inclement weather in Binghamton. The team will now face a challenging slate of matches beginning with back-to-back-to-back matches against America East opponents Stony Brook, Vermont and Hartford on April 12-14. Stony Brook and Hartford are expected to be BU’s biggest obstacles at the America East Championship on April 26-28. The conference champion receives an automatic berth into the NCAA Championship.
