Binghamton University has hired Scotland native John Scott as a full-time
assistant men’s soccer coach. Scott, who played three years of
professional soccer for Liverpool FC of the English Premiership, comes
directly from SUNY Plattsburgh, where he served as an assistant women’s
coach in 2000-01.
“John brings a wealth of knowledge from both a coaching and playing
standpoint,” ninth-year head coach Hristos Dimitriou said. “He has devoted
most of his life to the sport, and his international ties will help us
recruit quality student-athletes who can elevate our program in Division I.”
Scott played for Liverpool from 1991-94, and then played for Inverness
Caledonian Thistle FC of the Scottish First Division from 1994-96. In
1996, he played collegiately for Division I Hartwick College. He also was
a member of the 1990 and 1991 Scottish Youth National Team.
As a coach, Scott has worked with teams at the college, professional,
semi-pro and youth levels in the last five years. He coached the
developmental squad of St. Johnstone FC of the Scottish Premier League in
2000, and holds four different SFA certificates for goalkeeping and ages
five years to adult. In addition, Scott holds a National Diploma from the
National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).
He received a bachelor’s degree in sports coaching and development from
University of Abertay in Dundee, Scotland in 2000.
Scott will join Dimitriou and part-time assistant coach Jim Vagliardo when
BU kicks off its 2001 season on August 31 at the Central Connecticut State
tournament.
